“Working with Communities to Improve Health and Well-Being in Rural Guadalajara: Faculty and Student Leader Perspectives on a University Partnership”

Lori DiPrete Brown, MSPH
Assistant Director, Center for Global Health
UW-Madison

The seminar will report on the accomplishments and challenges of an interdisciplinary public health effort in rural Mexico. This partnership, carried out with support from a Baldwin Grant, takes place in a context of a sister-state relationship between Wisconsin and Jalisco, Mexico, and is supported by a University Partnership agreement between the University of Guadalajara and the University of Wisconsin System. Faculty and students from both institutions are working together in areas of health and nutrition, environmental care, youth services and income generation. In addition to improving health and well-being at the community level, the partnership aims to enrich and strengthen community outreach and service-learning at both institutions.
